His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, issued a law amending some of the provisions of Law No. 4 of 2022 in relation to the Transportation Department.
In its first article, the Law stipulated the addition of the following definitions to the definitions listed in Article (1) of Law no. 4 of 2022 in relation to the establishment of the Transportation Department; these are:
Public Transport
Includes all means of public transport provided for the transportation of individuals or goods including transportation by buses, trains, the metro and all railway-track vehicles, marine vessels, cars, taxis, and buses in addition to the supporting infrastructure including vehicles, stations, stops, pavements, control centers, maintenance workshops, storage depots, and their designated routes and tracks.
Main Roads
Includes all main roads classified as per the road classification agreement in the Emirate in accordance with the approvals of the Executive Council and all related bridges, tunnels, intersections and methods of traffic control.
The Law also stipulated in its second article that paragraph two of Article (2) and Articles (3) and (4) of Law No. 4 of 2022 shall be replaced by the following:
Article (2), paragraph two, the Department shall be the body concerned with the economic supervision and monitoring of the aviation halls, airports, ports and the infrastructure, land, sea and public transport services according to the legislations applied in the country and the Emirate, and in that capacity, it shall have the authority to issue the regulations and decisions necessary to ensure the smooth operation of these sectors.
